Configuration Object off road
Summary This crash occurred on a two way, two-lane country road where the road curves right and there is a slight elevation in slope. The road surface is bituminous asphalt and was dry at the time of the crash. The atmosphere was clear and it was dark, but not lighted.

V1, a 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, was initially traveling east in the eastbound lane at a high rate of speed. V1 partially exited the roadway left, entered a clockwise yaw, struck a set of mailboxes mounted on a wooden post, crossed a private driveway and struck another set of mailboxes also mounted on a wooden post, re-entered and crossed the roadway, exited the south edge of the roadway into a cornfield and came to rest in the cornfield. During the crash, one of the mailboxes entered through the driver's window area striking the driver.

V1 was towed from the crash scene. The unrestrained driver was fatal at the scene with unspecified injury. The unrestrained passenger received a minor contusion but was not treated.
