Crash Type Vehicle to vehicle
Configuration Angle/sideswipe
Summary V1, a 1995 Ford Tempo was traveling southbound in the first lane of a 4 lane, dry, asphalt roadway during daylight hours.
V2, a 2001 Kenworth semi truck which was trailering 2 bulk trailers and traveling northbound in the first lane and traveling straight.
V1 went off the road to the right and then veered left crossing all south and northbound travel lanes. The right side of v1 came into contact with the front of v2 which tore the front end from the frame of v1. The rear section of v1 skidded to a stop off the east roadside. The driver of v1 was fully ejected from the vehicle coming to rest on the ground. V2 braked and steered to the left crossing into southbound travel lanes and departed the west side of the road impacting the ditch embankment with the front and coming to rest.
Air bags deployed in vehicle 1. Both vehicles were towed from the scene of the crash. The driver of v1 was transported to a trauma facility for treatment of injuries and later died.
